About the artist

The drawings of the Japanese artist Taiyoh Mori are extremely reduced, delicate and fragile.
They concentrate on the relations between paper, pencil and light in an extremely precise approach.
The way in which the drawing is created and what happens on and in the paper, can only be experienced through close and focused observation. Observing the work becomes a permanent process of searching for those traces.
All elements which interfere with this process, such as representative forms, expressive gestures or colors, are reduced to a minimum.
To view the drawing, it is placed into a spatial context. It never exists alone. It is ultimately the potential of light that seems to merge with the surrounding environment.
In confronting the process of drawing, Taiyoh Mori thus explores the possibilities of rendering those transitions between space and drawing visible.
