About the artist
Sophie Heinrichs works are defined by an exacting application of the linear and the decisive placement of large, often triangular shapes. She strategically utilizes unpainted areas of the canvas as foundational elements, incorporating their texture and colour into the composition. Every brush stroke, every line and surface is meticulously placed. Some lines are firm and dominant, others delicate and almost imperceptible. In her astute planning of each composition, she also considers the relation of present elements to other paintings. Therefore she often combines multiple, large scale canvases into grand tableaus.
