About the artist

Laura Aberham renounces all representationalism in her paintings. She radically excites a type of color field painting, to a point where only the individual color itself, its interaction with others, and the recognizable application of color have meaning. The paintings sometimes develop a dynamic that almost leads into a color frenzy. Thus a performative character resonates in her works, especially in the large-format ones. With this dynamic and wild movement, the viewer is not confronted with a closed picture composition, but with an open “working field” that shows the traces of the application of paint and clearly shows drops, traces of material, overlapping and layering. And yet the settings of the individual parts of the picture are very precisely positioned and carefully composed.
