Work

About the artist

Kazuki Nakahara’s sensitive drawings often show large, abstract and extensive fields of lines.
The parallels, diagonals and soft curves are based on the binary principle of color and emptiness, of being and non-being, 0 and 1. His abstract compositions are reminiscent of technoid structures such as semiconductors, but also of natural phenomena such as cloud formations, while the painterly sequences of strokes applied with colored pencil or charcoal appear almost spontaneous in their lightness.
His work is often reminiscent of Japanese calligraphy, a technique that has a long tradition in Kazuki Nakahara’s home country of Japan and was practiced by his father and grandfather.
Kazuki Nakahara was born in 1980, he has lived in Berlin since 2005 and studied at the Weissensee Art Academy with Prof. Hanns Schimansky.
His drawings have been shown in numerous international exhibitions. In 2020 he was awarded the Egmont Schaefer Prize for Drawing.
