About the artist
Andreas Zagler (born 1996 in Bolzano, Italy) is a painter working between Munich and South Tyrol. His practice centers on the construction of image worlds that feel both precise and intangible, where carefully rendered surfaces meet a sense of quiet ambiguity.
Educated at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich (2015–2023) under Karin Kneffel, he completed his studies as a master student. During this time, he was supported by the Cusanuswerk scholarship and, in 2023, received the academy’s Debut Prize.
Zagler’s work has been exhibited internationally in institutions and galleries such as Haus der Kunst in Munich and Artists Space in New York, as well as at fairs including Positions Berlin, Parallel Vienna, and art Karlsruhe.
In his paintings, light functions as a structuring element, shaping spaces that appear suspended between presence and recollection. The scenes he creates resist fixed narratives, instead suggesting fleeting moments that hover between clarity and distance.
