Setphotographies of the Italian cinema

May 13 – June 26, 2022

Angelo Novi (1930-1997) worked for around 30 years as a photographer on the film sets of the most famous Italian directors of his time. He photographed exclusively for Bernardo Bertolucci, Sergio Leone and Pier Paolo Pasolini, among others. His still photographs of films such as “Once Upon a Time in the West” (1968) or “Ultimo tango a Parigi” (1972) are still encountered by the public today on film posters, in exhibitions and publications and are thus an integral part of the cultural memory of Italian cinema.
The exhibition at Galerie Rupert Pfab encourages a reassessment of Angelo Novi’s photography, whose images tell a story all of their own and reveal intimate aspects that cannot be found on the film screen.
